Display a form MS Project 2007

Author: mety Labels::

In Microsoft Office Project 2007, you can use forms (form: A type of view that gives you detailed information about an individual task or resource.) to enter or view specific information about tasks (task: An activity that has a beginning and an end. Project plans are made up of tasks.) and resources (resources: The people, equipment, and material that are used to complete tasks in a project.) in your schedule (schedule: The timing and sequence of tasks within a project. A schedule consists mainly of tasks, task dependencies, durations, constraints, and time-oriented project information.), one item at a time.

Project provides several predefined task and resource forms, but if these don't meet your needs, you can customize them or create your own forms.
Tip For easy access to the predefined and custom forms that are available, you can display the Custom Forms toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options used to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click the toolbar you want. To see more buttons, click Toolbar Options at the end of the toolbar.). On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Custom Forms.
With Project, you can:
  • Use forms to view or enter specific task or resource information in your project.
  • Create custom forms with specific task or resource details that meet your needs for creating, tracking, or analyzing your project.
  • Edit predefined or custom forms.
  • Assign predefined or custom forms to menu commands or toolbar buttons.
Project includes the following predefined task forms:
  • Cost Tracking
  • Task Earned Value
  • Entry
  • Schedule Tracking
  • Task Relationships
  • Tracking
  • Work Tracking
Project includes the following predefined resource forms:
  • Cost Tracking
  • Entry
  • Summary
  • Work Tracking
Note Custom forms that you create or modify are stored only in the current project file. To make custom forms available in other project files, you can move them to the enterprise global template (enterprise global template: A collection of default settings, such as views, tables, and fields, that are used by all projects across the organization. These settings exist within a special project in Project Server.) by using the Organizer (Organizer: The tabbed dialog box in which you can copy custom views, tables, filters, grouping definitions, calendars, reports, forms, toolbars, maps, field attributes, and VBA modules to other documents and to other users.).
Unlike a view where you can enter and display information about multiple tasks or resources, forms allow you to enter and display detailed information about one task or resource at a time. Seeing information in a form can make it easier to track detailed information about a task or resource.

Display a form

You can use a form by itself, but it is most useful when displayed in the bottom pane (pane: A section of a window that contains a view. A combination view consists of two panes, for example, the Gantt Chart view in the top pane and the Task Form view in the bottom pane.) of a combination view (combination view: A view containing two views. The bottom pane view shows detailed information about the tasks or resources in the top pane view. For example, the Gantt Chart view could be in the top pane and the Task Form view in the bottom pane.). Project then provides additional information about the selected task or resource in the top pane.
To display a form in a combination view, on the Window menu, click Split. The form view appears in the bottom pane.

Modify a form

You can modify a form to display different information. For example, you can display the cost of a selected resource instead of the resource schedule in the Resource Form view. The information that you can display depends on whether a task form or a resource form is active.
  1. Open a form view in the bottom pane.
  2. On the Format menu, point to Details, and then click the type of information you want to display.
